Types of Dental Implants
For patients suffering from tooth loss or requiring extractions, dental implants and implant-supported restorations can restore form and function to your smile and benefit your overall health. Dental implants are the only solution to stop jawbone atrophy at the site of a missing tooth and prevent further tooth loss. At Northland Dental Medicine in Pittsburgh, PA, Dr. Michael E. Corsello offers several types of dental implants including traditional, mini, and All-on-4® depending on your unique needs. As the inventor of Snaptite Smile® restorations, Dr. Corsello is a nationally renowned, preferred provider of implant dentistry who specializes in patient comfort and satisfaction.
Dental Implant Variations
As dental implants come in all shapes and sizes, Dr. Corsello will create a customized treatment plan to meet your unique needs. He will carefully assess your jawbone structure, tissue density, and degree of tooth loss before choosing the right implant for you.
Standard dental implants are 3.4 to 5.8 mm in diameter. These posts are strategically placed in the jawbone to support dental crowns, bridges, and full arch restorations. In order to be a candidate for treatment, patients must have sufficient bone tissue to support restorations. As a preliminary procedure, Dr. Corsello may recommend a bone graft or sinus lift to improve bone structure and ensure optimal, long-lasting results.
For traditional implants, several months of healing time are typically necessary before you can receive your final restoration. From your first consultation to your procedure and aftercare, Dr. Corsello will ensure your needs are met.
Mini implants offer an alternative and affordable restorative option. These implants are often preferred by patients who do not have sufficient bone tissue to support traditional implants or desire a less-invasive procedure. The posts are about half the diameter of standard implants, ranging from 1.8 to 3.3 mm wide, and they are primarily used to support bridges and full-arch restorations. Due to their small size, mini implants can be placed using minimally invasive methods, reducing recovery time and eliminating the need for sutures.
All-on-4 Dental Implants
The All-on-4 implant technique allows for immediate installation of a full-arch prosthesis on four strategically placed long titanium posts. These specially made implants are produced by Nobel Biocare, and are placed at a unique angle to take advantage of the strongest ares of the jawbone. All-on-4 implants provide a cost-effective solution for patients who lack sufficient bone density for traditional implants, but prefer to avoid preparatory procedures including different types of bone grafting, such as sinus lift surgery or ridge augmentation.
For patients suffering from tooth loss or requiring extractions, dental implants and implant-supported restorations can restore form and function to your smile and benefit your overall health.
To provide you with the highest quality care, your doctor may combine different implant types and procedures before placing your restorations.
After your dental implants are placed, Dr. Corsello may recommend a full-arch restoration to complete your smile. All of the implants we use at our practice are compatible with our advanced Snaptite Smile® technology, which Dr. Corsello specially designed for his patients. This system provides superior stability for prosthetic teeth, and can be easily removed for regular cleaning at home.
