Mini Implants Offer Less-invasive Treatment for More Patients
For patients seeking the highest quality dental restorations, dental implants are the most recommended treatment. Mini dental implants, offered by Dr. Michael E. Corsello in Pittsburgh, PA, are a smaller, less invasive alternative to traditional implants, and many patients can receive them without the need for bone grafting. At Northland Dental Medicine, mini implants are the preferred choice for many of our restorative dentistry patients. Compatible with our advanced Snaptite Smile® system, mini implants can be used to replace even a full arch or set of teeth.
About Mini Implants
Mini implants perform the same function as traditional dental implants. Both are titanium posts placed in the jaw, where they fuse with your bone to form stable roots for dental restorations. Mini implants can be the same length as standard implants, but are much smaller in diameter, creating a less invasive treatment. If your jawbone density cannot accommodate larger implants, you may be able to receive mini implants to anchor a full arch of teeth. This technique distributes the load among several sturdy posts to provide optimal structural integrity, without the need for any preparatory procedures such as bone grafting.
Traditional implants require a period of months for full healing prior to installation of permanent teeth restorations. The mini implants process is a comparatively minor procedure, without extensive invasion of gum and bone tissue. There is little pain involved, and healing takes place over a much shorter period, allowing you to return to full oral function much sooner. With mini implants, patients can typically receive their customized implant-supported bridge or Snaptite Smile® restoration the same day as surgery, allowing them to leave our office with a fully restored smile.
Your Mini Implants Treatment
At your initial consultation with Dr. Corsello, he can perform a comprehensive exam of your existing bone mass. He will discuss all potential options for dental implants and recommend an optimal course for you. For the mini implants placement surgery, local anesthesia is all that is generally needed, but we can provide further sedation if you desire. The procedure takes one to two hours, and recovery is remarkably quick. Most patients can remain comfortable with over-the-counter medication, and return to usual activities within a couple of days. In addition, because of the unique design and size of mini implants, you may be able to receive your dental restoration on the same day as surgery. Over the next couple of months, the implants will fuse with your jawbone, creating a permanent, sturdy foundation for your implant-supported restoration.
