Inlays and Onlays
The Benefits of Inlays and Onlays
Inlays and Onlays are a general dentistry procedure more commonly referred to as premium quality fillings. They are another instant restoration prepared with CEREC® technology and are placed in and on the teeth to protect specially prepared portions. Typically, inlays and onlays are used in place of a filling when a patient prefers the longest lasting filling material.
Inlays are done when there is no damage to the cusp of the tooth. They can be fitted and placed right into the tooth. An onlay is generally used when the damage to the tooth is a little bit more extensive. Onlays incorporate a replacement for the cusp of the tooth where there may have been a fracture or remaining tooth structure that may have undermined perimeter walls of the tooth.
Trust Us To Build Your Brand New Smile
Both inlays and onlays are general dentistry procedures that can be done at Northland Dental Medicine in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Dr. Corsello will carefully evaluate each case to determine if an inlay or an onlay is needed. First, the decayed area of the tooth is removed. A digital 3-D impression is then obtained through CEREC® cameras. The restoration is then milled in the CEREC® CAD CAM milling machine in about 15 minutes and is adhered into place. The tooth will then look completely normal and is ready for full function.
