Sinus Lift

Sinus Lift or Sinus Augmentation, an innovative procedure we perform at Northland Dental Medicine, allows the floor of your sinus’s to be repositioned gaining adequate new bone to act as foundation for supporting dental implants towards the upper posterior area of your mouth. Implants towards the back of your mouth are often necessary after the loss of posterior teeth. With this missing space putting extra pressure on the jaw, force and pressure may be redistributed throughout your jaw and mouth towards your other teeth, damaging them and shifting their position within your mouth.

What is a Sinus Lift?

Atrophy following tooth loss causes the partition separating the sinuses from the oral cavity, known as the

before and after sinus lift

alveolar bone which at one time supported natural teeth with dense bone up to an inch thick, to become paper thin. Obviously implanting new teeth in these atrophied sites where your former teeth resided would be impossible. Sinus lift rebuilds this area by placing bone regenerating materials into the sinus. As the maxillary sinus directly neighbors your jaw and dentition, this newly regenerated bone allows for surgical procedures, such as implants. Implants are necessary in the case of missing teeth, to prevent jaw degeneration, but there is not always a practical space to perform such an installation. Like a miracle of modern science the sinus lift can do just that.

How Long Until I Can Have Implants?

This procedure is quick, affordable and effective. These types of procedures report a 95% success rate, and generally prepare the mouth and jaw well for implants down the road. It can take anywhere from six to ten months for the area to stabilize and grow a solid foundation, through the grafting and lifting process. Once this time has elapsed, and Dr. Corsello has verified there is a workable area in which to place the implants, your procedure may go ahead.

At Northland Dental Medicine, we offer sinus lift, grafting, implant procedures and more. Dr. Corsello has served the Pittsburgh region for many over 25 years, and is a highly trained and respected local dentist. If you need a name you can trust, call us today for all your dental needs.
